“New York Poem,” by National Book Award winner Terrance Hayes, from the November 29, 2010 issue of The New Yorker.
A couple of years ago we went to a birthday party on a rooftop in Chinatown, and there I got talking to a poet who may or may not have been Terrance Hayes. All too often I convince myself that I’ve met someone I haven’t. (Though in this case I’m 95% certain I have.)
I like this poem a lot, even if it wasn’t the same guy. I remember that he was very humble and tall.
I was not wearing boots that looked made of dinosaur skin at the time.
